EVS-20
in Long Beach,
California December 12,
2003 LONG BEACH, CA
When I dragged my Wife to the
first "Publicly Advertised Electric Symposium" way
way back in 1999 at the Peterson Museum, in the
ugly part of Los Angeles we were directed away from
the prime exhibits, on up to the top floor of the
building, where the pigeons roost... Up there we
saw 5 or 10 booths, a couple of "someday cars" and
a whole bunch of broke inventors... Last month The 20th
International EV Exposition "EVS" was held in Long
Beach, California - the up scale beach town at the
world famous Convention Center, one of the nicest
in the world... Electric Drive Transportation
Association (EDTA) hosted the event and did a great
job of attracting from many countries that produce
Electric Cars, Trucks, Bikes, Vans, Scooter,
battery, hybrid and fuel cell products. There was
even a company with a working ELECTRIC SKI
MOBILE. There were more than 150
booths and exhibitors at this epic event. I
couldn't help but wonder how all these companies
were surviving in the worst recession in 30 years!
But then it came to me... These companies are
motivated by the recession. People are struggling
to keep their rents paid and when they drive into
their local gas station to fill up their SUV's and
the total they pay is $5 to $10 higher than last
year, I think they FINALLY think about alternative
means of transportation. The goal of this year's EVS
was current developments with Hybrid-Electric and
Hydrogen fuel cell technology. I know, fuel cells
are lame... But, after all they are electric.
(We're not big fans of spending 6 Billion US
Dollars to convert gas stations to electric - You
may have seen this stated elsewhere on our
website?) Participating companies
included major car manufacturers, including Toyota,
Honda, General Motors, Ford Motor Company,
Chrysler-Daimler, and Hyundai. But the most
impressive thing about this event was the number of
new startups who had brite ideas and WORKING
PROTOTYPES!!! THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS
SHOW was outside in the parking lot. From the
minute we got there to the end of the show Electric
Cars were moving around, giving people test drives
- There were electric scooters, motorcycles,
fuel-cell prototype automobiles. (SEE OUR VIDEO
SECTION FOR SOME MOVING PICTURES! It was great to see these
clean machines Whizzing almost silently around a
test track - I overheard many comments about how
impressive it was to see them in action. "One guys
turned to me and said "Wow, I guess these things
are real now!" The Honda FCX and the General
Motor's GM Truck blew every onlooker away!!! It was
almost as if they were expecting golf carts to be
lagging around sounding like something you'd buy
for your kid at Walmart! People walked up to the GM
TRUCK and asked "Why is this here?, that's not
electric?". It is. A real working hybrid pickup
truck that can pull things, move things, and runs
as good or better than the gas model. Yea we know
there's a gas motor in it, who cares... once you
put the electric under the hood a bigger more
powerful electric will be coming! Right now the
electric motor aids the truck in all low speed,
stop and go driving, and even kicks in on the fly
to make gear changes in the automatic transmission
smoother... Tell me that isn't a foot in the door
into our garages! (See the GM Truck video in our
video section) For the die hard hot rod
lovers GM al had on display it's prototype
"AUTOnomy" (Watch for a video soon in our video
section), This car looked like it could fly...
Rumors are that it will be out in 2008, just in
time for an electric motor that will do 150 Miles
per hour - Yea, this is where electrics are
going! WaveCrest's is a new company
that is focusing on creating the power plants for
electric cars. It's executive team includes former
Daimler Chrysler Executive, Richard Schaum. The FCV
Roadster (See our new cars section),

WaveCrest's propulsion system, which consists of an
electric Adaptive Motor® system with an
advanced battery technology that the reps claim
will last twice as long as today's batteries,
and take half the time to recharge! World's
Fastest Electric
Car At 257 mph, the Ohio State
University Buckeye Bullet now holds the official
record as the world's fastest electric car. This
machine performed very well at the Bonneville Salt
Flats this week, traveling as fast as 271
mph! (See more info about this car

to get involved. Ventura, CA This is an
exciting time for hybrid-electrics and we've come a
long long way in just 5 years... The next decade
will begin the final phase out of combustible
motors... We are currently looking for people
interested in investing in our company. Our long
term goals are to design, build and market our own
Electric Car. However, this looks like a million
dollar operation... and in this economic climate it
is not likely to happen... In the short run we are
developing channels of distribution for any EV
brands, we would like to open a few car lots in
southern california. The money involved here is
looking like several hundred thousand
dollars. We are also interested in
finding people who own car dealerships to forward
sales inquiries for our customers. If you know any
deal owners who want a new stream of customers let
us know. |
