The long wait for the Model 'S' created a lore in the electric car industry. The 'S' was always "coming next year" and was regarded as a ghost. Tesla attracted investors, a stock I.P.O. and hundreds of millions of dollars in U.S. stimulus funds.

If the 'S' was released in 2007 as first promised it would have been the number one EV. It's actual release was vague. All requests from ElectricCars.com to Tesla to preview the 'S' were ignored. We suspected this was just another "Someday Car".

But we have to honor the 'S' because as rumors spread about the 'S' being the first highway speed EC priced under $50,000 other auto manufacturers were motivated to ramp up production on electric vehicles. This helped the electric car industry go to the next level. GM, Nissan and other major car makers "S"tomped the "S".
