The VOLT is General Motor's redemption. GM released the world's first mass-produced Highway Speed Electric Vehicle - The EV-1 - in the late 1990's way ahead of all the competition. Much confusion still exists over why GM then decided to subject the line to mostly self-inflicted failures.

EV fans worldwide regarded GM/s act as treason, but by making the ill fated (and ill marketed) EV-1 a martyr the result was massive rebellion, proving the public truly did want electric cars. There was even a movie made about this dark episode in auto history.

Ten years later, after much speculation, delays and redesigns the Volt will come to market in 2011. But, now several powerful competitors like Toyota, Nissan and Mitsibishi have EV's already running in the black... Time will tell if GM waited too long.
