Configuration: Race Car

Originally developed for circle track racing, this bright red 1979 Mazda RX-7 was winner of the C-Stock class at the 1993 APS Solar and Electric 500 held at Phoenix International Raceway, the fastest one mile oval in the United States. Retired from the circle track when competition class changes favored larger cars, the RX-7 was reworked for the drag strip. Turning a slow 90 mph in 14.7 seconds ET at the '96 APS Electrics on 1 March 1996, driver Roderick Wilde still beat the second quickest EV, a specially prepared General Motors Impact, by 2.25 seconds.
