Chrysler's electric version of its popular
minivan includes the same ammenities as its
gas-powered cousin. Several of the standard
features include dual airbags, tinted windows, side
window demisters, intermittend wipers, rear window
wiper, and a removable rear seat. The oil and air
cooled DC traction motor is controlled by a solid
state microprocessor and coupled to a two-speed
semi-automatic transaxle. The transaxle has a
clutch for shifting between the high and low gears.
The onboard battery charger has settings for 220
volts/20 amps and 280 volts/40 amps. Also included
is an onboard battery diagnostics system and
portable maintenance unit. The battery pack is
mounted under the floor and features an automatic
watering system. The Epic has an energy efficiency
of 48 kWh/mile.
